Description
Stegosaurus stenops
Named by Othniel Charles Marsh, 1877 (Specific name, 1887)
Diet: Herbivore (Ferns, cycads, and tree-ferns)
Type: Thyreophorian (Stegosauria) dinosaur
Size: 26 feet (8 meters) long and 5 to 6 tons
Region: North America (Colorado, Wyoming, and Utah USA)
Age: Late Jurassic (155 to 150 million BC; Kimmeridgian to Early Tithonian)
Enemies: Allosaurus, Torvosaurus, and Ceratosaurus.
Episode: Time of the Titans
Info: This bus-sized plant-eater was made famous for its diamond-shaped plates running along its back that was used for display and attract members of the opposite sex instead of defence. The 3.3 foot (1-meter) long spikes, or thagomizers, on the end of its tail would've been a lethal weapon against any predatory dinosaur that threatens it - an Allosaurus veterbrae was found with a puncture whole made by a Stegosaurus's thagomizer, but luckily the injury was healing over, meaning that, despite such devastating injury that would've killed it, the Allosaurus survived.
Note: Based on . Originally I was going to keep the original Stegosaurus, because it was said that its accurate enough, but I was told by that the original didn't have the S-shaped neck and was fat, so I updated it. Also I was having a hard time choosing which species, S. stenops or S. ungulates. While it was as large as S. ungulates, I choose S. stenops due to its fame, importance, and physical appearance.
Well its been a long time coming! I finally posted one of the most iconic and widely recognized of all dinosaurs, the one thyreophorian that every child of all ages grew up with and even recognizes it with the diamond-shaped plates on its back and spikes on its tail. ("Meet Stegosaurus! An interesting enigma! - Huxley the paleontologist from Arena Spectacular) If it was my favorite non-avian dinosaur, my username would be TrefSteg instead!
